UEFA talks about the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo at Ceremonial Night

The European or UEFA football association through their President Aleksandr Ceferin, finally spoke about the absence of Mega Bintang Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo in a UEFA ceremonial event some time ago. Ceferin claimed to have no idea what the reason behind the absences was, but he could ensure that UEFA did not divulge the best player award winners to any player including Ronaldo.

As is known, UEFA did hold a ceremonial event on Thursday night (08/30) local time in Nyon, Switzerland. In the event, UEFA did not only draw draws or draws for the European Champions League and Europa League Group stage, but also announced award winners in various categories, and the most important was the European best player category this year.

There are three main award-winning nominees, they are Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Mohamed Salah. The Juventus star, Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to win the award for the 5th time, but instead Croatian midfielder, Luka Modric won the award, after bringing Madrid to the UCL and Croatia national team titles to the 2018 World Cup Final.

Cristiano Ronaldo was not present at the ceremonial event, and someone said that he already knew that he would not win the main award. But, UEFA President Aleksandr Ceferin insisted that he did not divulge the results of the vote to any player.

“Why isn’t Ronaldo present? You must ask him. Ronaldo is actually expected to attend. Then, a few hours before the ceremony, Juventus announced the news [Modric’s victory]. I don’t know if this is because the award was given to Modric. I can only tell you that I did not know the winner until a week ago. Modric himself was surprised.”

“I asked Giorgio Marchetti [secretary assistant] and he answered, nothing would be communicated, even to the players. It’s better to be a surprise, right? However, I don’t know about Ronaldo, maybe there is another reason behind his absence. We better think optimistically.”
