Luka Modric wins the 2018 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award

Not Cristiano Ronaldo or Mohamed Salah, UEFA apparently prefers Real Madrid and Croatian National Team mainstay, Luka Modric to get the award as Europe’s best player this year. This 32-year-old figure won the competition with Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah in the selection process.

In fact, from the start Cristiano Ronaldo was the favorite candidate to win this annual award, after he helped Real Madrid win the European Champions League for the third time in a row in the last three years in last season’s campaign with 15 goals scored. Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah, who entered the top three candidates in an extraordinary manner, led Liverpool to the UCL Final round last year.

But who won the award was precisely the Croatian national team midfielder, Luka Modric. This player was awarded the world’s best player for consideration of his success in driving Real Madrid to win the European Champions League last season and lead the Croatia national team to the 2018 World Cup finals.

In the selection as the best midfielder, Modric was very far ahead, even 233 points from the closest competitor, Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne. He also defeated two of his team mates, Toni Kroos and Casemiro. Modric is the key to team play by delivering Los Blancos to become the 13th Champions League champion and become European ruler for three consecutive seasons.

Modric appeared 11 times in the Champions League last season, scoring one goal and making one assist. Modrid also performed brilliantly with Croatia in the 2018 World Cup, although his team lost at the hands of France in the final. Even so, he managed to get an individual award as the best player in this tournament.
